Auctions, cake decorating contest, pie toss, live music on the agenda
The Crookston Eagles on Friday, Oct. 12 will host a “Community Soars to Defeat Cancer” event that will raise money for cancer patients seeking treatment at RiverView Health in Crookston or Altru Clinic-Crookston.
All funds raised will go toward those patients to help them with things not covered by their insurance. Although funds will benefit other cancer patients as well, this year’s focus is on throat cancer.
Tickets are $10 each, with children ages 5 and younger getting in free. Kids can play “Treat Bingo” for free, but other activities during the event will require an additional contribution. Tickets can be purchased at the Eagles or Crookston Chamber & Visitors Bureau, recently relocated to the main floor office space below the Eagles. Every ticket sold will be entered in a prize drawing.
A cake decorating contest will be a highlight of the evening. If you’d like to decorate a cake, stop at the Eagles or the Chamber office to pick up a form, or call Sheila Menard at 289-3212 to have a form sent to you. One a winning cake is selected, all of the cakes entered will be auctioned to raise funds.
The event will start at 5 p.m. with a free-will offering meal of chili and cornbread provided by the Eagles Auxiliary. There will be live and silent auctions throughout the night. Items for the auctions have been donated, more continue to come in, and more are welcome.
The “Pie Toss” is back, too. You’ll have a chance to throw a pie in the face of one of the evening’s willing volunteers.
The night will conclude with the M & D Band taking the stage at 9 p.m.
