Scramble June 21 at Minakwa
The United Way of Crookston’s Annual Giving/Golf Committee is putting the finishing touches on planning for its 3rd annual golf event, a four-person scramble on Thursday, June 21 at Minakwa Golf Club in Crookston, with Hugo’s Family Marketplace as the lead sponsor.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9.
Once again, the proceeds will go toward the United Way of Crookston’s yearly campaign, which is open until of the end of August 2018. This year’s campaign goal was $160,000, which has been eclipsed. United Way of Crookston Executive Director Lori Wagner tells the Times that the fundraising goal for the golf scramble is $5,000 to $7,000. (The recent Jail & Bail fundraiser raised $8,175.)
The 2019 fundraising campaign will kick off with the Soup & Chili Cookoff and Chocolate Extravaganza in October.
The United Way of Crookston has three focus areas: Health, Education, and Income. Currently, it serves 19 agencies’ programs and projects. According to community leaders and local residents, the top three issues in the Crookston area are drugs, mental health issues, and hunger.
The United Way of Crookston also includes a Student United Way chapter at the U of M Crookston. The SUW has three focus areas as well: Localizing Hunger & Poverty, Breaking Bullying -Leading the Change, and Kick Start Reading & Mentoring.
Activities and promotions at the golf event include raffles for cash prizes, a wheelbarrow full of fun, a putter, driver, meat bundles, a grill, TV, and gift certificates. A hole in one will also win the lucky player a new car from Brost Chevrolet.
Various sponsorships are still welcome. If you’d like to be a part of it, contact Hugo’s Store Director Bob O’Halloran at 281-3690, ext. 4191.
