The Crookston Early Childhood Summit held its spring training on April 26 in the U of M Crookston’s Bede Ballroom, focusing on strategies for supporting young children in the context of trauma.

Angie Carlson and Chris Green from the Northwest Mental Health Center in Crookston presented to around 80 early childhood professionals in our community.

The training explored the impact of stress and trauma on the development and well-being of young children, their families, and caregivers.

Participants will understand the need for a trauma lens, examine the effects of trauma on development, regulation and relationships, learn strategies related to the ‘trauma lens”- the need for a co-regulating partner and explore the need for self-care.

An Italian buffet meal was served and each person was given tool kit items to use in their work with children.

The Summit is funded by Otto Bremer Trust.
