Traill County (N.D.) commissioners invited
The owner of the BS Garage Bar in Nielsville, Sam Gerbracht, is hoping for a nice crowd at a meeting scheduled for Monday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at the Nielsville Fire Hall to discuss what he and others say is the increasingly urgent need to replace the “Nielsville Bridge” that crosses the Red River bordering Minnesota and North Dakota.
The current bridge was deemed deficient and has been closed since September of 2015.
Since then, two applications for federal TIGER Grant funds to repair the bridge and reopen it have been denied.
On the Minnesota side of the issue, officials have indicated a willingness to help pay for their share to get the bridge fixed. But on the North Dakota side, the Traill County Board of Commissioners has so far balked at committing any funds for the project.
Gerbracht and others who say the bridge’s continued closure is having a compounding negative impact on their businesses, commutes or other aspects of their lives want to speak to Traill County commissioners at the April 23 meeting. Gerbracht tells the Times that as of now, the only Traill County commissioner who has said he will attend is Kendall Nesvig. Other Traill County commissioners include Thomas Eblen, Kurt Elliot, Larry Young and Les Amb.
Gerbracht said those looking for more information can visit the Nielsville Bridge Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NielsvilleBar.
