Alice Normandin, 92, of Detroit Lakes, formerly of Crookston, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Essential Health-Oak Crossing Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gentilly with a time of gathering an hour prior. David Donehower Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Wilmer Sevigny, 89, of Crookston passed away on May 16, 2022, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D. The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Wilmer Sevigny will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with The Rev. David Baumgartner officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to Mass. The funeral will be livestreamed by going to www.crookstoncathedral.com and clicking on the prompt to view. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery at Gentilly. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude’s, or another organization of your choice.

Douglas “Carl” Mark Melbye

Douglas “Carl” Mark Melbye, 65, of Crookston died Thursday afternoon, June 23, 2022, in the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo with his family by his side, listening to his favorite song. Carl had been battling poor health for the past several months but was known for always having a smile, joke, or encouraging word for anyone he met.

Gary Louis Klava

Gary Louis Klava, 82, was born at home on September 9, 1939 in Minto, N.D. to Theodosia (Wosick) and Emil Klava. He was the third of their five children. When the family moved to Crookston, he met and married the love of his life, Joyce (Myerchin) on June 9, 1962. Always one for a road trip and adventure, they traveled west to Washington for the World’s Fair and south to California. While returning back east through Colorado, they fell in love with the area. Upon their return to Minnesota, they gave their notice and moved to Colorado two weeks later. Gary and Joyce raised their four children in Arvada for 32 years and Hotchkiss for 13 years. Dad opened his first business, Klava’s Treadmill, on September 25, 1975 on the corner of 58th and Ward Road. In 1979, he bought land up the hill on 52nd and Ward and built Klava’s Service Center which remains a fixture in the community to this day. In 2007, they moved near Austin, Texas, where they met wonderful friends while being involved in hospice work and their faith community, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.

Sherri Delores Helgaas, 65, of Crookston passed away in her home Monday morning, January 31, 2022, after a month-long battle with cancer. The family will host a Celebration of Life honoring Sherri at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with visitation for one hour before.
