The Crookston Pirate boys’ hockey team split results this week, as they picked up their second win against Bagley 5-4 but lost to Little Falls 0-10. On Saturday, the Flyers got off to a quick start, scoring 25 seconds into the game.

The Crookston Pirates girls’ basketball team got off to a slow start but picked it up in the second half for a 47-30 win over Thief River Falls on Monday, January 17. The Pirates have had—and won— three games in a span of just four days, which impacted their first half play, head coach Darin Zimmerman said.

A young man strides to the mound, winds up and delivers the ball to home plate, with his tongue peeking out of his mouth in a manner reminiscent of Michael Jordan, he locates the ball and methodically strikes out his opponent. The young man is Trevor Buttermore. He was a lot of things to a lot of different people. A brother, a son, a teammate, a student-athlete, a father, a partner. But through all those titles everything points to one common thread. Buttermore was an amazing man who made an impact on anyone he came into contact with during his young life. He was a goal-driven young man, mature beyond his years, and in many ways unshakeable.

The Crookston Pirates boys’ basketball team was on the wrong end of a historic night, as they fell to Badger Greenbush Middle River (BGMR) 38-80 on Monday, January 17. The Gators’ Kobey Dallager totaled 24 points on the night, scoring his 1,000th career point.

The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team will host their first home games of the new year as they welcome the team at the top of the standings in the WCCHA Southeast Division Gustavus Adolphus College Saturday, January 22 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, January 23 at 2 p.m.

The Crookston Pirate youth wrestling team had a busy weekend with meets in both Roseau and Lake Park this weekend. On Saturday, January 15, five wrestlers placed at Roseau.

The Crookston Pirates girls' hockey team defeated Northern Lakes for the second time this season, earning their second sweep. Although both games produced the same outcome--a win--the Pirates scored one more goal on 19 fewer shots this time around.

The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team picked up a sweep over North Dakota State University with 6-4 and 6-3 wins at the West Fargo Sports Arena in West Fargo, N.D. The Golden Eagles picked up their second-straight sweep and pushed their win streak to four. They have won five out of their last six games.

The Crookston Pirates wrestling team made quick work of the Hillsboro Burros, defeating them in less time it took to make the drive to Hillsboro. Rather than start at the lowest Rather than start at the lowest weight class, which is done in Minnesota, Hillsboro flipped for the starting weight class.

The Crookston Pirates boys' basketball team dropped its ninth game of the season to Fertile Beltrami 39-73. Despite the final score, the Pirates hung with the Falcons for much of the first half.
