The Crookston Pirates girls’ hockey team recorded its fourth consecutive win and third straight shutout with wins over Detroit Lakes and Bemidji on Monday, January 24 and Tuesday, January 25. In the game against section rival Bemidji, the Pirates avenged their tie from earlier in the season with a 2-0 victory.

The Crookston Pirates boys’ hockey team couldn’t muster a goal in the third period on its way to a 2-4 loss to Kittson Central on Tuesday, January 25. As if on script, Jack Doda scored the first goal for the Pirates eight minutes into the first period.

The Crookston Pirates boys’ basketball team played a strong first half but fell a part in the second, as Barnesville went on to win 80-51. Jacob Hesby and Jack Garmen, the Pirates’ leading scorers, gave Crookston a 4-0 lead.

The Crookston Pirate wrestling team won its twelfth dual with a 45-24 victory over Fosston on Thursday, January 20 and placed third out of nine teams in the Prowler Invite on Saturday, January 22. At the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls, eight Pirate wrestlers finished in the top three of their weight classes, including Ethan Bowman who racked up his 125th career win.

The Crookston Pirates girls’ basketball team extended its winning streak to nine games with wins over East Grand Forks (EGF) and Badger Greenbush Middle River (BGMR) on Thursday, January 20 and Saturday, January 22.

The Crookston Pirates girls’ hockey team stunned International Falls 15-0 for the season sweep on Saturday, January 22 at Crookston Sports Center. Just as she did in their first match up, head coach Emily Meyer mixed up her lines to get everyone more experience and playing time.

Senior lineman Brooks Butt committed to play for the Jimmies football program on Saturday, January 15 at Jamestown University. Butt—whose accolades include Cospecialist of the Year in 2020, two time All-District and All-Section 8AA team, Most Inspirational and Hardest Worker— continues in the family tradition of playing football at Jamestown.

The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s basketball team split the weekend, earning its third conference win against Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) 70-67. The Golden Eagles’ loss on the weekend came to Sioux Falls 47-73.

The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball team dropped a pair of road conference games against Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) and Sioux Falls. The Golden Eagles fell by 10 to the Cougars on Saturday, 60-70.

The Crookston Pirates boys’ basketball team put up 10 strong, opening minutes against Red Lake County (RLC) but fell by a final score of 53-85. “We are going to have to look at the game and see if we can figure it out,” head coach Greg Garmen said of Crookston’s unfortunate pattern as of late.
