First youth three-on-three basketball tournament coming to East Grand Forks

Kadynn Melquist of East Grand Forks has been playing basketball for as long as she can remember. She grew up playing on teams as part of EGF’s Youth Basketball Association and volunteered as a coach for the program in high school. So when she injured her ACL her freshman year playing for Mayville State University, she had a tough decision to make.

Bob and Jeanine Peabody make $2.6 million gift to UND Men’s Hockey program

Grand Forks — Bob and Jeanine Peabody of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, have signed a gift agreement to donate $2.6 million to the UND Men’s Hockey program — $2.55 million through their estate plan and $50,000 to make an immediate impact on the program. Bob Peabody played hockey at UND in the late 1950s. He played goalie on the 1958-59 team that won UND’s first national championship in the sport. He graduated in 1961 with a degree in business. Jeanine earned an English degree in 1962. The Peabodys own Lumber Mart in East Grand Forks and Grand Forks.“We are very thankful to be as well off as we are at this point in our lives,” said Bob. “It’s time to reward those that have helped us get to this point. The University of North Dakota was good to both my wife and me and gave us the tools to be successful in life.”The gift will fund needs within the hockey program. “Bob and Jeanine are a very big part of our hockey family,” said UND Hockey Coach Brad Berry. “Their gift will impact the student-athletes that come through our doors every day. We can’t thank them enough for everything they have done for our hockey program.” “We are so thankful to have people like Bob and Jeanine as part of our alumni family,” said DeAnna Carlson Zink, CEO of the UND Alumni Association & Foundation. “Their passion for their alma mater and UND student-athletes is evident in this extremely generous gift. It is a wonderful testament to their success and their philanthropic spirit.” Bob and Jeanine have been prominent supporters of charitable and civic projects throughout the local area. Bob says their belief is that they are repaying old debts through their philanthropy. Bob said, “If you forget who brought you to the dance then you missed the whole ballgame. Pretty simple. You have to go back and take care of those that took care of you when you needed it and say ‘thank you.’”

Kaden played a great game on Tuesday at Pelican Rapids. Aside from playing great defense, Kaden had an outstanding assist to Caden Boike for the team's only score in the Pirates 1-0 win! Kaden has been having an exceptional season and has really improved his game!

Girls’ Soccer“

Joslyn “Jojo” Wallace Jojo a returning Defender has played consistently well for us all season. Last weekend at Melrose she had stellar games against Melrose and Rocori. She played all 80 minutes in both games. She was communicating with her peers, making great runs to provide help defense, commanding the center and made great distributions to transition the ball out of our defensive third.

Hurts, so good! Eagles QB dominant in 24-7 win over Vikings

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Hurts rolled to his right, scampered down the sideline and stutter-stepped to the 5-yard-line, where he was wrapped up by a defender with another in pursuit. Hurts twisted his body, lowered his head, dragged two defenders with him and powered his way in for an adrenaline-filled 26-yard touchdown run that about broke the game open.

Lysne Wins Tipsinah Mounds Invitational as Golden Eagles Take Second

ELBOW LAKE, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s golf team continued their strong start to the season Sunday, September 18 at Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course and the second round of the Tispinah Mounds Invitational. The Golden Eagles set their single-round low as a team for the third-straight round as they shot a 319 Sunday. In addition, Anaka Lysne (Fr., Wahpeton, N.D.) built on a great start to her career by winning the Tipsinah Mounds Invitational with rounds of 72 and 74. Lysne is the first Golden Eagle to win a tournament since Ashlee Humble won a triangular with Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College April 27, 2018.
