It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Williston, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston hockey scored three second period goals, all on the power play to score a 5-2 win over the Tetons of Williston State College on Saturday afternoon. Minnesota Crookston won their fourth game in a row and 20th on the season.

Huska Scores Two Goals, Including Overtime Winner as Golden Eagles Topple St. John’s

It took overtime, but Minnesota Crookston was able to hold off a late charge from St. John’s University on Saturday afternoon at the Crookston Sports Center. Jake Huska (Jr., D, Snow Lake, Manitoba) found the back of the net 1:44 into overtime for the 5-4 win over the Johnnies.

Crookston wrestlers have strong showing at Thief River Falls

SMSU Uses the Deep Ball to Defeat Minnesota Crookston on Saturday

Southwest Minnesota State used the three-point line to their advantage, making eight threes in the second half, 14 overall, to propel the Mustangs to a 17-point win in Crookston on Saturday night. With the 75-58 win, the Mustangs improve to 13-8 (10-6 NSIC), while the Golden Eagles fall to 10-12 (9-7 NSIC).

On Friday night in Crookston, it wasn’t the Cartwright from Sioux Falls everyone expected to beat Minnesota Crookston. Rather, it was Matt’s brother, Jack, who finished with a team-high 20 points on 5-6 shooting from deep, engineering a 24 point win for his Cougars in Crookston.

WAYNE, Neb. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball team held off a late charge from Wayne State College (Neb.) to earn a key road victory 74-72. The Wildcats caused six turnovers in the final five minutes using a full-court press to put pressure on the Golden Eagles, who had a 12-point lead with over eight minutes left in the game. Minnesota Crookston made key shots and plays down the stretch to earn Saturday’s win.

Duluth, Minn. – This past weekend, the University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team traveled to Duluth for a two-game series against Minnesota Duluth. On Saturday, the Bulldogs scored two goals late for a 6-4 win, while the Golden Eagles returned the favor, scoring a goal with less than five minutes to go, skating to a 4-4 tie.
