It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Augustana Controls Second Half to Clip Golden Eagles on Friday Night

Augustana outscored Minnesota Crookston by 20 points in the second half, breaking a tie at half leading to a 93-73 win over the Golden Eagles on Friday night.The Golden Eagles fall to 6-19 overall and 3-16 in the Northern Sun.The Vikings would score the first seven points of the night, taking an early 7-0 lead, but Reid Grant (Jr., G, Johnston, Iowa) would finish a layup in the point to get the Golden Eagles on the board.

Minnesota Crookston Men’s Basketball Adds Lake City Standout Hunter Lorenson to 2024 Class

Head Coach Bryan Beamish and the University of Minnesota Crookston men’s basketball program announced the signing of guard Hunter Lorenson (G, Lake City, Minn.) on Monday morning.Lorenson is the second commit and second in the backcourt for the Golden Eagles, joining local standout Caiden Swenby (G, Fertile, Minn.) to the 2024 class.Second year Head Coach Bryan Beamish is excited about Lorenson and what he brings to the back court.“I am very happy to have Hunter join our basketball family.

Albrecht and John Sutherland scored 52-of-80 points for the Beavers, accounting for 65.0 percent of their offense.Bemidji State improved to 12-12 (8-10 NSIC) with Thursday’s win, while Minnesota Crookston dropped to 6-17 (3-14 NSIC) with the loss.Minnesota Crookston was lifted by Blaize Sagna (R-Jr., G, London, England), who scored 20 points.
