It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

USDA Invests $10 Million in High-Speed Internet for People in Rural Minnesota

PAUL, Minn., Feb. 16, 2023 -- U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Minnesota State Director Colleen Landkamer today announced an investment of $10 million to bring highspeed internet access to people living and working in rural Minnesota. Today’s investments include funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides a historic $65 billion to expand reliable, affordable, high-speed internet to all communities across the U.S.

Voters say yes to bond for Multi-Use athletic facility

Voters in the Crookston school district approved a $4.9 million referendum for a new multi-use complex located at Crookston High School. The unofficial results from Tuesday’s election had 1,010 yes votes to 706 who voted no.

Crookston Fire Department names third Hydrant Heroes

The Crookston Fire Department would like to congratulate Derek Martin on being the thrid Hydrant Hero of the season. To show our appreciation we presented him with $25 in Chamber Bucks to be used at a local business in town. Diana Padilla is on a roll at RiverView Health. Not only was she recently promoted to Purchasing/ Inventory Agent Coordinator in the Supply Chain Department, but she was also named the 2022 Employee of the Year.

Crookston pirates participated in MathCounts competition on Feb. 10 in Thief River Falls.

The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team scored 21 runs in a slugfest in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader with the Hawai'i Pacific University Sharks. Minnesota Crookston edged Hawai’i Pacific 21-13. A combined 34 runs were scored in the game. The Golden Eagles have not scored over 20 runs since a 23-6 victory over Bemidji State University March 6, 2021.

On January 25th, 2023 Crookston FFA competed in various Region 1 FFA CDE’s at UMC. The Fish and Wildlife team came in 6th place and qualified for state.
