Crookston Fire Department Hydrant Heroes #4

The Crookston Fire Department would like to congratulate Jim “Mouse” Sullivan on being the Fourth Hydrant Hero of the season. To show our appreciation we presented him with $25 in Chamber Bucks to be used at a local business in town. If there is hydrant on your block and you would like to adopt it and keep it clear, you could be a Hydrant Hero and be in our next drawing. Strategic Farming: Let’s talk crops! session talks cover crops frequently asked questions

On Feb. 22, Anna Cates, Ph.D., UMN Extension soil health specialist, Monica Schauer, Univ. of Wisconsin researcher and Eric Yu, UMN graduate student, joined UMN Extension crops educator Liz Stahl for a conversation about frequently asked questions regarding cover crops. Crookston hosts first varsity speech tournament

On Saturday, Feb. 18, Crookston High School hosted its first varsity speech tournament, with nine teams competing. Schools competing at the tournament included; Blackduck, Breckenridge, East Grand Forks, Fosston/Bagley, Red Lake County, Roseau, Thief River Falls, Warroad, and Crookston. In total, 83 students competed in 90 events, with all 13 MSHSL Speech categories represented.

UMN Crookston faculty to host research expertise showcase March 2

The University of Minnesota Crookston will host its second faculty research expertise showcase March 2, 2023 from 12-2 p.m. in the Sargeant Student Center and invite educational institutions, industry partners, community stakeholders, and the general public to attend. Faculty from all four departments on campus will present posters in their respective fields of expertise and share more information about their published abstracts.

UMN Crookston professor Dani Johannesen announced as 2022-2023 recipient of Horace T. Morse award

University of Minnesota Crookston associate professor Danielle “Dani” Johannesen, Ph.D. has been announced as a 2022-2023 recipient of the Horace T. Morse University of Minnesota Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education. Those who receive the award become members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers (ADT) and the title “Distinguished University Teaching Professor” or “Distinguished University Teacher” is conferred upon recipients, plus new members will be invited to participate in ADT events and activities.
