It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar meets with NW MN infrastructure leaders

Northwest Minnesota stakeholders had the opportunity to share some of the needs of their counties and potential benefits the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill could bring to the region during a January 12 zoom call with U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar. Representatives from the Northwest Regional Development Commission, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Grand Forks–East Grand Forks Metropolitan Planning Organization and Rural Transportation Collaborative were present along with leaders from the Polk County Board of Commissioners, Polk County Highway Department and Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, Inc.

Polk County Sheriff's Office reported that a female was transported by life flight for burns sustained in a Fosston apartment fire. The fire broke out on January 13 at approximately 6:55 p.m. at 218 Hilligoss Blvd W in Fosston and the PCSO, Fosston Fire Department, McIntosh Fire Department and Essentia Ambulance responded to the scene.

Crookston’s Caleb Mendez winner of piano solo competition in Fargo

Mendez was recently announced as the winner of the 2022 Thoreson Steffes Young Artists Solo Competition (HS Division), presented by the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra & Classical Minnesota Public Radio. The competition was held January 8, 2022 at Reineke Hall at North Dakota State University.
