UMC has 11 recipients of NSIC All-Academic with distinction honor

The University of Minnesota Crookston had 11 recipients announced for the prestigious NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction award. The Minnesota Crookston student-athletes bestowed with the honor are: Mary Burke (women’s basketball, Virginia, Minn.), Kelsie Hanson (women’s cross country, Brainerd, Minn.), Connor Humble (men’s golf, Rosemount, Minn.), Hannah Macias (softball, West Covina, Calif.), Leah Macias (softball, West Covina, Calif.), Bailey Mulcahy (volleyball, Fertile, Minn.), Katie Orth (women’s cross country, Randall, Minn.), Kylie Post (women’s basketball, Corcoran, Minn.), Kylea Praska (women’s basketball, Thief River Falls, Minn.), Ben Trostad (men’s golf, Crookston, Minn.), and Lauren Wallace (volleyball, Bloomington, Minn.).

Lions Blood Drive at Trinity Lutheran Church

The Crookston Lions Club hosted a two-day blood drive with Vitalant on January 25 and 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church which helped collect a total of 63 units of blood products for patients in need. A total of 64 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 57 individuals were able to successfully donate at the Vitalant blood drive. A total of three donors also came forward to donate Power Red Cells (2RBC) which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution back to the donor. There were four people who volunteered for the first time.

Fosston fire leaves house a total loss

A Fosston family was able to exit their home safely after a January 29 fire deemed a total loss. Polk County Sheriff's Office and Fosston Fire Department were dispatched to the 200 block of S Mark Ave in Fosston at approximately 6:10 p.m. on January 29 and ob served occupants of the home, Debera Aspen, 67; Lisa Aspen, 45, and a juvenile had exited the home. None of the occupants were injured as a result of the fire and the house was deemed a total loss.

Accident on Highway 75 and County Road 21 sends two to hospital

An accident north of Crookston at Highway 75 and County Road 21 sent two to the hospital after the drivers collided at the intersection. The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the accident occurred on January 30 at approximately 12:10 p.m. after a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Linda Mary Gill, 57, of Grand Forks, was traveling westbound on County Road 21 and a 2014 Ford Fusion, driven by Luca Min Engen, 20, of Argyle, was traveling southbound on Highway 75 when the two vehicles collided.
