Golden Link, Boy Scouts host flag retirement ceremony

Crookston Boy Scouts hosted a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day Tuesday, June 14 in the Golden Link Senior Center parking lot where they retired flags that were no longer serviceable. The United States Flag Code states, "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." City Council discusses current and proposed transient merchant ordinance

While it was for discussion only, the current transient merchant ordinance specifically regarding food trucks and the proposed ordinance changes took up most of the June 13 City Council meeting with multiple stakeholders and a food truck owner coming to the podium to ask questions, offer information or share their opinions on future amendments. Ultimately, interim City Administrator Corky Reynolds and City Clerk Ashley Rystad were tasked by the council to make requested changes to the draft proposed ordinance and to bring the proposed ordinance back to a future meeting.

Fertile Sand Hills BioBlitz through month of June

Agassiz Environmental Learning Center You can be a citizen scientist and help the Agassiz ELC identify plants, animals, insects, and birds as part of the AELC 30th Anniversary BioBlitz! A bioblitz is a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. In this case, the designated location is the 640 acres that the City of Fertile owns and manages in the Fertile Sand Hills.

Minnesota Crookston Men’s Golf Announces Signing of Julian Nieto from Colombia

The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s golf program announced the signing of Julian Nieto (Bucaramanga, Colombia/Colegio Campestre Goyavier) to a National Letter of Intent. Nieto is the third signee for the Golden Eagles. He joins Ethan Howes (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta) and Carson Shultis (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North H.S.).

MnDOT announces $2 million in Transportation Economic Development funding available for projects in Greater Minnesota

Cities, counties, tribes and other government entities in Greater Minnesota are encouraged to apply for matching funds for local transportation infrastructure projects that support economic development, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced today. Greater Minnesota is defined as all counties outside of the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Benedictine Living Community-Crookston launches Cycling Without Age Program

On May 26, 16 Benedictine Living Community-Crookston associates trained to be trishaw pilots with Cycling Without Age trainer Jake Krohn. Cycling Without Age is a global movement, launched in Denmark, that seeks to engage older adults in trishaw rides to improve the health and emotional well-being of both the volunteer cycle pilots and passengers.
