Crookston Library’s Books & Brews Book Club to Meet October 25

The Crookston Public Library will host a meeting of the Books & Brews Book Club on Tuesday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar & Grill, 925 Fisher Ave. The group will discuss Everything you Wanted to Know About Indians But Were Afraid To Ask by Anton Treuer. The book club meets the fourth Tuesday of every other month to discuss books and enjoy beverages.

Mental illnesses, discrimination and support in Minnesota

Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) is October 3-8. It’s a time to raise awareness of mental illnesses, fight discrimination, and provide support to people whose lives have been impacted. This year it takes on significant importance because so many people are experiencing poor mental health due to the impact of the pandemic. Anxiety and depression have increased dramatically. We can see the angst in our community - people with short tempers or who are easily frustrated.

UMN Crookston 2022 Career and Internship Fair relaunch deemed a success

University of Minnesota Crookston’s 2022 Career and Internship Fair was relaunched September 15, 2022 with over 40 employers present, close to 200 students registered, five panels of experts, a career champion luncheon, and a new location, inside the Sargeant Student Center, to top it off. Known as the marquis event for the career services program, and being the first one held on campus since 2019, the 2022 fair was said to have exceeded everyone’s expectations.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Community Health Service (CHSI) welcomes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. One in four women will be the victim of domestic violence at some point in her lifetime, and, on average, three women are killed every day at the hands of a current or former intimate partner. Anyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual identity, or orientation. Or socio-economic status can become a victim of domestic violence.
