Pre-Prom ‘Arrive Alive’ event held for high school students at the Armory

RiverView Health in partnership with the Crookston High School, Polk County Toward Zero Death Committee and local law enforcement hosted a Pre-Prom "Arrive Alive" event for CHS sophomores, juniors and seniors April 22 at the Crookston National Guard Armory. The event included a speaker who spoke on how bad choices have lasting effects plus four stations were set up for hands-on participation from the students.

UMN Crookston: Harouna Maiga, Ph.D. earns Horace T. Morse Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education

Since 1965, the Horace T. Morse-Minnesota Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education has been given to a select group of teachers who reflect the University's emphasis on the importance of high-quality undergraduate education. Those who receive this award become members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers (ADT). The title "Distinguished University Teaching Professor" or "Distinguished University Teacher" is conferred upon recip ients.

UMC hosts ‘In the Spirit of Cinco de Mayo’ event

University of Minnesota Crookston hosted a "fiesta" in the Spirit of Cinco de Mayo April 22 with multiple activities, a dinner and performance. Arts and crafts for children such as paper maché flowers, Dia de Los Muertos items, Caquitos, and Aztec calendars were held in Bede Ballroom, a free authentic Mexican supper was held in Brown Dining Room and a dance performance by Los Alegres Bailadores Dance Troupe concluded the evening in Kiehle Auditorium.

CHS Speech and FFA students send-off to state, FFA leaders recognized

Crookston High School Speech and FFA students were honored with a special send-off to the state competition April 21 as the high school band performed the rouser while they walked through the halls. After the walk, all students went to the auditorium where state-bound Speech students Samantha Rezac, Zara Baig and George French gave a brief description of what their speeches and categories were followed by a performance of those speeches.

Additional volunteers needed for sandbagging efforts, residents asked to steer clear of dikes and sandbagged areas if not volunteering

School Board news and notes: Safe school signage on Fisher/Central to get enhancement; 2022-23 academic calendar changes approved

- Crookston School Board approved the purchase of Safe Schools Zone signage for Fisher Avenue and Central Avenue at their March meeting as the district has been working with the City of Crookston and Polk County to add flashing lights on a timer to help indicate when speed zones are enforceable. Superintendent Jeremy Olson said he has received commitment from the city and county to pay for half of the project and sought $8,000 from the school board.
