It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Crookston native to share about Honduras mission work at St. Paul’s July 24

Crookston native Steve Solheim and his wife, Kelli, will share about their mission work in Honduras during the July 24 10 a.m. worship service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. A salad potluck and fundraiser meal will follow and WELCA will provide desserts.

Rydell National Wildlife Refuge and the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge Refuges Association will be hosting several free events for area youth this summer. The first of these events will be an Introduction to Archery, which will be held at Rydell Refuge from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16. This event is for youth ages 8-16 and will provide an introductory experience to the sport of archery, using the safe and unintimidating Hoverball Archery System, where rubber tipped arrows are shot at plastic balls that are suspended on a stream of air. This is a free event and no pre-registration is required.

New U.S. Bike Route 20 connects St. Cloud to Moorhead

A new 188-mile bike route connecting St. Cloud to Moorhead is the third such amenity in the state, giving people in Minnesota more opportunities to take a trip by pedal power.

An accident was reported on June 24 at 5:30 p.m. on Holly Avenue after a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Lydia Jasso of Crookston, was traveling northbound when it struck a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer, legally parked, owned by Helmer Knudsvig of Crookston.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources welcomes comments through 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, on a draft of Minnesota’s updated wolf management plan that incorporates the diverse views of Minnesotans and will guide the state’s approach to wolf conservation once finalized.

Roger Moe Elected to Serve as Minnesota State Chair of the Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has unanimously elected Roger Moe to the role of chair, and George Soule to the role of vice chair. The chair is elected for one two-year term; the vice chair is elected for one one-year term. Both appointments become effective July 1, 2022.
