The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is conducting CWD sampling on deer one year of age or older harvested in the CWD management zone (deer permit area 661) where sampling is mandatory the opening weekend of firearms season A, Nov. 5-6, and in DPAs in the CWD surveillance zone (DPAs 256, 257, 262 and 265) where sampling is voluntary.

Avian influenza confirmed in Ransom County; events suspended

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial turkey and chicken flock in Ransom County, North Dakota. The detection extends the suspension of poultry/bird events in Ransom and the adjoining counties of Barnes, Cass and Richland, which were currently under suspension from a late August finding in Cass County. Adjoining counties newly under suspension due to the Ransom County finding are Sargent, Dickey and LaMoure. Additional counties still under suspension from earlier findings include Traill, Steele, McLean, McHenry, Ward, Mountrail, Renville and Burke.

GRANT APPLICATIONS NOW ACCEPTED FOR PROJECTS THAT PROMOTE OR PRESERVE NATURAL RESOURCES

The Omdahl Conservation Fund is now accepting applications for projects that promote or preserve natural resources in Northwest Minnesota. The Eldor and Stella Omdahl Environment and Conservation Fund (known as the Omdahl Conservation Fund) is a component fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation with the dedicated purpose of supporting charitable, educational and scientific programs, projects and activities that support or benefit environmental and conservation causes.Grant applications are being accepted for projects that promote or preserve natural resources in the Northwest Minnesota region. This region includes two tribal nations (Red Lake Nation and White Earth Nation) and 12 counties (Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau). Applicants must be 501c3 nonprofits in this region.The total funding available is $40,000 and multi-year grants may be considered. The maximum grant award is $25,000. Funding is available through June 30, 2023. The application period will remain open until funds are depleted.
