MDA Seeks Feedback on the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is looking for public input on a draft application for the Minnesota Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) Program. Feedback can be provided by joining one of four virtual input sessions or through an online form available until December 12, 2022. Feedback shared during this process will inform the final application process for this competitive grant program, which is expected to be released in winter 2023.

MDE says Attorney General’s opinion on lunch shaming is a win for students and families

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) applauded Attorney General Keith Ellison’s opinion that all students are entitled to the same healthy, full school meal, regardless of lunch debt. Commissioner Heather Mueller had asked the Attorney General for clarification after receiving reports that a number of public schools or districts across Minnesota had adopted policies whereby students with unpaid meal balances are denied lunch items from the scheduled menu for the day.

Report: Minnesota Continues to Rank Third in Prosperity Despite Pandemic and Economic Challenges

Minnesota ranks third in overall prosperity according to the American Dream Prosperity Index (ADPI), released this month by the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream in partnership with Legatum Institute. The United States continues to see a rise in prosperity, even as we faced the long-term impacts of a pandemic and the economic realities of rising inflation and a shrinking economy. But while the overall trend points to a prosperous nation, prosperity continues to be unequally distributed regionally, often eluding rural communities and Black Americans.

Minnesota National Guard Selects First AirGuard Leader for Senior Enlisted Position

Thursday, the Minnesota National Guard will conduct a ceremony that appoints the first Air Guard leader in more than 166 years to the most senior enlisted position in the Minnesota Guard. 'I’m very proud to be selected as the voice of the enlisted,' said Air Force Command Chief Master Sergeant Lisa Erikson, Incoming Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL), Minnesota National Guard.
