Heppner and Perrel are both first-time honorees for the 2015-16 athletic season
The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s golfer Seth Heppner (Sr., Crookston, Minn.) and volleyball player Maggie Perrel (R-So., RS, New Germany, Minn.) have been named UMC Teambackers Student-Athletes of the Week for the seven-day period from Sept. 17-24. Heppner and Perrel are both first-time honorees for the 2015-16 athletic season.
Heppner is off to a strong start to his senior season after taking last year off. The senior is averaging 75.9 with one top 10 finish so far this season. He is coming off a strong tournament at the Northeastern State University Men’s Fall Classic in Bartlesville, Okla. Heppner shot rounds of 78, 75 and 75 on a difficult course against strong competition.
Perrel is coming off a great week as the Golden Eagles played University of Minnesota Duluth, St. Cloud State University and Bemidji State University. Perrel averaged 3.82 kills and 2.27 digs per set in three matches on the week. The right-side hitter had a .152 hitting percentage on the week. Perrel’s best match came with 17 kills in a 3-0 loss to Minnesota Duluth, fighting the No. 1 Bulldogs in all three sets, falling 25-22, 27-25 and 27-25. Saturday in a 3-0 win against St. Cloud State, Perrel had 12 kills and hit .250, while she had 13 kills in a 3-2 loss to Bemidji State Tuesday.
