Our Savior’s LWML Afternoon Guild met on Thursday, September 3rd. Laurain Jurchen, President welcomed all. Birthday greetings were sung to Colene DeBoer (September 11th birthday) and a greeting card sent to Harriet Anderson (September 5th birthday). Following table grace all enjoyed a time of Christian fellowship and a refreshing dessert served by the hostess Laurain Jurchen.
Jean Tester shared an Opening Devotion “Do You Remember” with references to Jude 21. The Bible Study taken from the LWML Summer Quarterly - “Drinking-From The Eternal Springs” was under the leadership of Laurain with all participating.
Human Care Chairman, Judy Ellingson reminded all of the upcoming September Mission Projects: “Bundle-Up-A-Snowman” bring new or hand made mittens, scarves, hats etc. for Orphan Grain Train “Peanut butter & Jelly” - as a service to our community bring peanut butter & jelly for our Group Homes in Crookston, “Appreciation For Public Servants” bake cookies and bars to be delivered to police, firemen, ambulance and sheriff personnel.
Patsy Abrahamson reported that eleven were served at the Staff & Teacher Appreciation Luncheon held on September 1st.
Laurain Jurchen presided at the business meeting with several items discussed and tabled. LWML Sunday is October 4th - quilts will be displayed and Patsy Abrahamson will once again furnish “Donuts for Mites”. The LWML Fall Rally is October 24th at Trinity, Twin Valley with a special Ingathering scheduled for Lutheran Island Camp (shoes, electric fans, bedding-extra long twin sheets, pillows and cases).
Colene DeBoer will send cards in September and October. Sewing dates are Tuesday, September 8th & Monday the 28th at 2:00 pm.
Todd & Andria Ellingson, Christian missionaries in Rwanda, Africa for 5 years will be sharing experiences of their work in Rwanda on the evening of Thursday, September 10th in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church basement. The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with a light supper followed by their presentation. Todd is the son of Bud & Judy Ellingson. Todd & Andria will be accompanied by their children, Ella and Zebadiah. Everyone is welcome to the supper and program sponsored by the Afternoon Guild.
Colene DeBoer shared an article from the Forum “The ‘Mute Minister’ speaks out” written about Rev. Lyle Kath, a former pastor at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Winona, Minn. After a ten year cancer journey he was left without a voice, but he is certainly not voiceless. He continues to write and leads worship at nursing homes and his church and is pastoral advisor for the Fargo-Moorhead chapter of Lutherans for Life.
MITES were gathered and the meeting closed with prayer. The next meeting is October 1st. The program will be a Bible Study. Hostesses are Pearl Radi and Cristina Resendiz and Lorna Clemenson will be the Devotion Leader.
