For the week of 5/28 – 6/3

Pirate of the week selections, along with comments from the coaches:

Jake Widseth – Boys' Tennis: Head coach Mike Geffre says, “Jake has taken his game to a new level in the last year, and has been involved in some key wins. He was part of the lineup that defeated Thief River Falls to get to State, and won his doubles match at the State Tournament against Hibbing. His game continues to get better and better and he will be a key player in next year’s lineup.” Ryan Porter – Baseball: Head coach Mitch Bakken says, “Ryan has continued to give us great at-bats and has been solid for the Pirates in left field, center field and at first base. Against DGF Ryan started out the game with a blast to left center field and then came around to score to put us up 1-0 in the first inning. Later in the game, Ryan made a great diving catch in right center field to end the inning with bases loaded for DGF. We look for Ryan to be a leader and a spark for every game the team has left.” Maddie Nicholls and Ally Tiedemann – Girls' Golf: Head coach Jeff Perreault says, “Congratulations to Ally Tiedemann and Maddie Nicholls, the two Pirates going down to State. They each shot personal bests in their Section rounds to qualify, and as a coach, I wish them the best of luck and look forward to watching them compete at the State level." State Team – Boys' Golf: Head coach Steve Kofoed says, “Zach Markovich, Charles Eickhof, Doug Larson, Isaac Westlake, Ben Trostad, and Brock Heppner. This group of guys have worked very hard this season and have improved every single week.  All of them are very capable of breaking 80 on every golf course, including The Ridges of Sand Creek next week at the State Tournament.  This is one of the reasons I believe we should expect to play well and be in the mix on the back nine of day two.” 4x800-M Relay Team – Girls' Track and Field: Head coach Amy Boll says, “Congratulations to the girls’ 4x800-Meter relay team, consisting of Katherine Geist, Marietta Geist, Danica Brekken, and Luisa Bernia for making it to state! Good luck! Enjoy the memories!” State Relay Team – Boys' Track and Field: Head coach Wayne Folkers says, “This week’s Pirates of the Week are the six tracksters going down to State as a team: Patrick Deng, Mason Wang, Cade Salentine, Brandt Delage, Guthrie Dingmann, and Lukas Meier. Even though track is an individual sport, all these guys are going down together as a team in the 4x2 relay. It takes a lot of teamwork and they have had that all year. That chemistry has brought on this chance for them to go to State.”
