Eight-session series is the American Lung Association gold standard.

According to the American Lung Association, seven out of ten smokers want to quit because they feel they owe it to themselves and those they love.

Of course wanting to quit and actually quitting are two different things. It’s no secret that quitting is hard. But you don’t have to go it alone. Starting Monday, Oct. 14, RiverView Health will be offering the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking group program to help arm you with the support and skills you need to quit smoking for good.

Freedom From Smoking is a program specifically designed for adults who want to quit smoking. It’s the American Lung Association’s gold standard, group clinic that has helped thousands of smokers quit for good.

The program takes the participants through modules, each containing several lessons. These lessons include valuable information and most of them contain an assignment to complete before moving on. The assignments reinforce the messages in each lesson and your commitment to quit.

But Freedom From Smoking does not begin with quitting. The program takes you through several lessons first, ensuring that solid information about preparing to quit is given before Quit Day.

The course will be led by Joan Morlan, RN and Pulmonary Rehab coordinator at RiverView Health. Morlan is also a certified facilitator of the Freedom From Smoking program. The course consists of eight sessions taking place over a seven week time period. All classes will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. in RiverView’s Meeting Room 2 in Crookston.

The cost for the course is $65, which includes a workbook and CD. The following is the course schedule:
