He grew up in Crookston and still has family here.
Richard Odell Olson, 70, of Sanford, Michigan died Saturday morning, November 24, 2012 at his home. He was born May 2, 1942 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, son of Odell H. and Joyce A. Olson. He grew up in Crookston, Minnesota and graduated from Crookston Central High School. He earned his BS and MS degrees from the University of North Dakota. Richard was a member of the National Guard for six years. On June 29, 1985 he married Lynne Allsup in Sanford. Richard taught Industrial Education at Bullock Creek High School and Middle School, retiring after thirty-seven years of service. He enjoyed biking and hiking, and after retirement, his woodworking skills kept him busy with projects around the house and doing things for friends.
He will be missed by his wife, Lynne; his mother, Joyce Olson of Crookston, Minnesota; sisters and brother, Gail Schultz of Crookston, Minnesota, Gary (Deb) Olson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Joydell (Jim) Alexander of Cook, Minnesota; and by many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Odell H. Olson.
Memorial services for Richard took place Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street with the Reverend Anthony N. Cutting of the Sanford United Methodist Church presiding.
