The longtime director of Williston's city band has died.
Everson Funeral Home says Virgil Syverson died Monday night at a Williston hospital. He was 94.
Syverson retired two years ago, after directing the city band for 42 years. The amphitheater in Williston's Harmon Park is named after him.
The Williston Herald reports (http://bit.ly/t1Q4Cp ) that Syverson came from his home state of Minnesota in 1947 to head the music programs at Williston High School. He went on to earn national awards and became known as "Mr. Music" in western North Dakota.
