It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

American Crystal Sugar Company awards grant to NACTA Students

American Crystal Sugar is proud to award UMC - NACTA (North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture) Students a check for $2,500 to help support their program. UMC Crookston agriculture students compete yearly in the NACTA Judging Conference. The event gathers both 2 and 4-year colleges and universities from all over the US where teams and individuals compete in a variety of agriculture competitions including soils, crops, ag business, and more. UMC has had the good fortune to place highly at this event and really puts northwest MN on the map! This year the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department has 17 students registered to compete at the conference which was held in Modesto, CA on April 12 - 15, 2023. The UMC team placed first overall in the 4 year division bringing home the sweepstakes.
