Minnesota National Guard Celebrates Opening of a Maintenance Facility in New Ulm

Thursday, the Minnesota National Guardisconductinga ribbon-cutting ceremonyfora new maintenancefacility in New Ulm, which provides advantages to the Guard and the community. “The new maintenance facility in New Ulm marks a point of recommitment for both the Minnesota National Guardand the City of New Ulm, ”said Army Lt. Col. Mark Gile, Commanderof the1-125th Field Artillery Regiment. “This facility brings new capabilities and doubles our current facility’s size, adding jobs for our Guardmembers from this city and the area. From track to wheeled vehicles, the New Ulm Army Field Maintenance Shop will be responsible for supporting units in southwestMinnesotafrom Highway 169 west to South Dakota.”The new facility consists of 25,000 square feet for 10 service bays, an equipment wash bay, and a general storage bay, allowing units in southwest Minnesota the ability to train on more of their equipment. Staff will have an additional 6,400 square feet for classrooms and offices. The second phase of this project, scheduled for 2025, will be to build a new National Guard Readiness Center adjacent to the Field Maintenance Shop that will bring new capabilities to the New Ulm-based battalion. More classrooms, a larger drill floor, and handicap-accessible bathrooms will make training more assessable to the servicemembersand a better alternative community space in New Ulm.'We recognize and appreciate the investment that the Minnesota National Guard is making in our community,'said Sarah Warmka, President of the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce. “We love having the Guard here and look forward to many years of continued partnership.
