It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

The Richardson’s Ground Squirrel

Minnesota DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife recently launched its new “Window On Wildlife” outdoor camera to capture wildlife and their activities, live, for public viewing and streaming on the DNR website. The first viewing opportunity involved a hen wood duck inside her nesting box incubating eggs and later hatching them. The month-long spectacle was a hit.

Third-Quarter IDEA winner announced

Cory Shuler was recently selected as the Improve Dee Excellence Award (IDEA) winner for the 3rd quarter, 2022. Shuler works in the casting department at Dee Manufacturing and won the award for his suggestion to improve matchplate rollover in the Hunter 32 sand molding operation. Shuler has been an employee at Dee Manufacturing for 4 years and is a resident of Crookston. He and his wife Melissa have 6 children, Andrew (19), Valerie (16), Ethan (14), Millie, (11), Aubri (7) and Layla (4).

United Way makes donation

The United Way of Crookston was able to donate a dozen newborn care kits to Polk County Public Health thanks to the employees of Enbridge energy. The kits include bottles, bottle brushes, wipes and a number of other care items all new moms need. Enbridge contacted the United Way to let us know their employees had chosen us as the recipient of their annual employee service project and we were thrilled that they thought of us.

Mitten Tree at RiverView Health

RiverView Health Auxiliary will be holding a Mitten Drive in the form of a Mitten Tree November 1st through November 30th. The Mitten Tree will be located in front of the Limited Addition Gift Shop at RiverView Health. The public is invited to “trim” the tree with their donations of new children’s winter mittens, gloves or hats. Please no scarves. The mittens, gloves and hats received will be distributed in early December to the area schools and given to children who need them. RiverView Health Auxiliary thanks you for your support in warming hearts and hands this season through this important service project.
