Minnesota Crookston Women’s Cross Country Finishes 26th at Roy Griak Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s cross country team took 26 of 30 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational Women’s Maroon 6K. The Golden Eagles beat NSIC schools Upper Iowa University and Concordia University-St. Paul. Madison Hilliard (Fr., Jacksonville, N.C.) led the Golden Eagles with a time of 24:50.4, placing 96 of 382 runners. Anna Grabowski (So., Waterdown, Ontario) returned after missing the St. Olaf Invitational. She finished in 25:17.5. Madison Elijah (So., Hebron, Ind.) clocked in at 28:40.9. Brooke Benson (Sr., Monroe, Wash.) posted a time of 30:03.5. Alex Christen (R-So., Sauk Centre, Minn.) set her season best with a time of 30:44.9. Rena Sakai (Sr., Chiba, Japan) also set her season best with a time of 32:21.1. Katie Orth (Sr., Randall, Minn.) posted a time of 32:24.5. Brianna Shaw (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) improved her time, finishing in 35:37.3.

Hate. This is an often-used word in our culture. Hate speech. Acts of hate. Hate crimes. Why do people hate? Sometimes it is aimed at others who are not like them and those who do not conform to their set of beliefs, values or convictions. They are not part of their political party, their religion, or maybe they are a different race or speak a different language. There is something within us as humans that seems to stiffen up or flat out reject those who are not like us. As a result, because of hate, there are always people in society that are rejected, condemned or seemingly pushed to the side.

Coyotes of North America

The coyote, sometimes referred to as “brush wolf” here in Minnesota, is a much-maligned creature that, in my opinion, is unwarranted. Few species of wildlife are as successful, resilient, resourceful, and intelligent as coyotes. Moreover, coyotes help control small rodent populations of mice and voles. Indeed, their predatory role in Nature is vital to maintain healthy and functioning ecosystems.

Donna Jean Jensen, 99, long time resident of Crookston, and the last year in Litchfield, passed away September 9, 2022, at Bethany Assisted Living in Litchfield. Donna was born in Crookston on March 8, 1923, to Joseph and Myrtle (Droppo) Brule.
