It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Sharon Rae Sims (Tollerud) was born on January 19th, 1941 in Jamestown, North Dakota to parents Vernon and Dagny Tollerud (Johnson). Sharon passed away peacefully in Crookston, MN on July 6th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Peggy Ann Gustoff, 65, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away early Sunday morning, June 19, 2022 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Peggy was born in San Francisco, CA on October 27, 1956, to Merrill Gustoff and Joanne (Wynne) Gustoff.

Curtis Ray Hoppe

Curtis Ray Hoppe, 76, of Crookston, MN, passed away at his home Tuesday morning, May 24, 2022, with his loving family at his side and while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. The memorial service for Curt will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Steve Bohler, officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-7 pm, with a prayer service and the sharing of memories at 7 pm, and will continue at the Church for one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday. Both services will be livestreamed by going to Curt’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske. com and clicking on the prompt to view. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.

Don’t give in to negativity

One Sunday afternoon, a cranky grandfather was visiting his family. As he lay down to take a nap, his mischievous grandson decided to have a little fun by putting Limburger cheese on Grandpa's mustache. Soon, Grandpa awoke with a snort and charged out of the bedroom saying, “This room stinks.” Through the house he went, finding every room smelling the same. Desperately he made his way outside only to find that “The whole world stinks!”
