Piebald. The word itself is strange, but the word’s origin, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, is derived, “. . . from pica, which is Latin for "magpie." The other part of piebald comes from the word bald, which can mean "marked with white"; it can also be found in skewbald, an adjective used to describe animals marked with patches of white and any other color but black.”

Transystems turns 80 ‘sweet’ years

Transystems turns 80 this year after decades of hauling sugar beets in East Grand Forks, Hillsboro, Moorhead, Crookston, and Drayton. Here's a little about their history: From ice road trucking in the far reaches of Canada’s Northwest Territory to hauling sugar beets through devastating floods in the Red River Valley and driving through forest fires in Wyoming, Transystems has seen it all since it was founded 80 years ago.

MNDOT: Private signs not permitted on public highway rights of way

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds the public that state law prohibits placement of private signs of any kind (i.e., political, lost pet, garage sale and other advertising signage) on highway right-of-way in Minnesota. Highway rights of way include driving lanes, inside and outside shoulders, ditches, sight corners at intersections, and boulevards in urban areas.
