President Biden’s cancer “moonshot” received a big boost from the Food and Drug Administration, thanks to its aggressive actions aimed at curtailing smoking. Three recent proposals — reducing nicotine in cigarettes, ordering e-cigarette maker Juul to take its products off the market and banning menthol-flavored cigarettes — have the potential to save many lives.

Douglas “Carl” Mark Melbye, 65, of Crookston died Thursday afternoon, June 23, 2022, in the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo with his family by his side, listening to his favorite song. Carl had been battling poor health for the past several months but was known for always having a smile, joke, or encouraging word for anyone he met.
