Klemek Outdoors: Feeding Orioles

While we here in the northland rarely see or hear singing northern cardinals (their sharp and loud whistles are unmistakable), we do have one bird that comes close to not only the striking beauty of a cardinal, but they can belt out an aptly competitive tune, too. Highland fifth and sixth graders compete at regional Math Masters challenge

Highland Elementary fifth and sixth grade students recently competed in the regional Math Masters of Minnesota Challenge in Bemidji and the fifth-grade team took home 7th place overall. Students competing were Asher Wieland, Nathan Pahlen, Hamsini Chanda, Eva Gosse, Keziah Mason, Abby Lane, Peyton Demarais, Jayde Uttermark, Sylvia Christensen, and Mackenzie Ness.

Lt. Governor, DNR commissioner, other Minnesota moms enjoy Take a Mom Fishing Weekend with their kids

Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Sarah Strommen joined other moms and kids for a shoreline and pier fishing gathering at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis the morning of Saturday, May 7. It was an opportunity to highlight the easy ways to try this pastime and to introduce more people to fishing and spend time together outdoors.
