Golden Link Senior Center to host mental health educational series events in May

The Golden Link Senior Center in Crookston recently received a grant from The Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation to have informational speakers and their first series of events is with Alluma. There will be four events May 3, 10, 17 and 24 starting at 10 a.m. at the senior center with different topics presented by Alluma speakers.

City Council tables sale of tax forfeited non-conservation land

Crookston City Council tabled a resolution approving the sale for tax forfeited non-conservation land property on Ingersoll Avenue at their April 25 meeting with a consensus that they’d like to see interim city administrator Corky Reynolds go back to Polk County to explore the situation. The land, which is designated as Parcel No. 82.02216.00, is located on the corner of Ingersoll Avenue and South Front Street and reportedly had $18,000 worth of past specials on the property. The intended purchase price of the land appeared to be $500, Reynolds told the Council.

Park Board gets updates on pool and summer activities, hears from high school visitor

Crookston Parks and Recreation Director Jake Solberg gave the Park Board an update on the Crookston Community Pool after it recently reopened and upcoming summer activities during their April 25 meeting. The board also heard from a visiting Crookston High School student who brought up a suggestion for dogs at the Humane Society.

Crookston Bremer Bank representative named one of seven Top Producing Loan Officers by Minnesota Housing

Bremer Bank and Minnesota Housing Seven Bremer Bank loan officers have been named Top Producing Loan Officers by Minnesota Housing for their loan production volume in 2021. The Minnesota Housing Top Producing Loan Officer Program has recognized individual loan officers with the highest volume of Minnesota Housing program loans for more than a decade.

Pre-Prom ‘Arrive Alive’ event held for high school students at the Armory

RiverView Health in partnership with the Crookston High School, Polk County Toward Zero Death Committee and local law enforcement hosted a Pre-Prom "Arrive Alive" event for CHS sophomores, juniors and seniors April 22 at the Crookston National Guard Armory. The event included a speaker who spoke on how bad choices have lasting effects plus four stations were set up for hands-on participation from the students.

City looks to reschedule corridor study public meeting, administrator candidate interviews due to recent high water event

Due to recent flooding of the Red Lake River in Crookston and the high water emergency, the City Council is considering rescheduling both the Highway 2 Corridor Study public meeting previously set for April 28 and the city administrator candidate in-person interviews previously set for May 2 and 3. Interim City Administrator Corky Reynolds told the Council he would direct city staff to select a better date for the corridor open house and that he would contact David Drown & Associates’ consultant to see what might best work for the candidates.

Lee Nielson

Lee Nielson, 91, of Erskine passed away on Thursday, April 21 at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with Pastor Mike Sletto and Pastor Randy Reimer officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Mentor. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
