It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Crookston School District Superintendent Jeremy Olson has been named as one of two finalists selected for the second round of interviews for the Bemidji Area Schools Superintendent position. Bemidji's school board will have the second round of interviews for the finalists on April 21 at their district office.

UMN Crookston Equestrian gets first signee with Utah native Montague

The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team announced the signing of Ashlyn Montague (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent. Montague is the first signee for the Golden Eagles.

CHS Speech team places 2nd at subsection tournament

Crookston High School's Speech Team competed Saturday, April 9 at the Subsection 31A Tournament in Oklee and took second place in the competition. Emily Balboa took 1st place in Dramatic Interpretation and advanced to sections; George French took 1st place in Humorous Interpretation and advanced to sections; and Samantha Rezac and Zara Baig took 1st place in Duo Interpretation and advanced to sections.

CHS Knowledge Bowl team gets 41st out of 48 teams at state

Crookston High School's Knowledge Bowl team received ended the state tournament with 41st place out of 48 teams, coach Katelyn Stegman said in an update. CHS was in the AA category and got 23rd out of 24 teams in that category.

Alluma to host 1st Annual Mental Health Event in Crookston

Alluma, formerly Northwestern Mental Health Center, is inviting residents from Crookston and surrounding communities to join them for the 1st Annual Alluma Night on Thursday, May 19, 2022 with the event kickoff at 4:30 p.m. at the Sargeant Student Center and Campus Mall at University of Minnesota Crookston.

Dawn Marie Wambach, 49, Grand Forks, was arrested April 5 by the East Grand Forks Police Department for fourth-degree DUI. She was released on her own personal recognizance.

Polk County: Driver arrested after 100 mph chase, foot pursuit

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, on April 10 at 4:12 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Hwy 75 and the vehicle fled at speeds up to 100 mph on various roads SW of Angus MN. When the vehicle eventually came to a stop the driver fled on foot.

Armin Elton Ross, 92, of rural McIntosh and a former longtime Fisher farmer, passed away at his home Friday evening with his loving family at his side. Armin was born at Higdem Township, Polk County, on August 4, 1929 to Walter John and Bertha Emilia Rose (Klema) Ross of Fisher.

Crookston FFA Chapter earns spot at first state convention

Crookston FFA Advisor Whitney Rupprecht and Times Report Over the past school year, students in the Crookston High School FFA Chapter have been competing for a spot to attend the MN State FFA Convention and this year 26 Crookston FFA members have earned that spot. Members will be traveling to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities for their competition.
