Polk County Child Protection Unit on Child Abuse Awareness Month

Can you help the children of Polk County? April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and the staff from Polk County’s Child Protection Services and Polk County Attorney’s Office Victim’s Services are once again teaming up to help bring awareness to the volume of children experiencing maltreatment in our community! We’ve been busy with our children and would like to include you, the public, on a glimpse of what our roles play in their lives. Who are we? The Polk County Child Protection Unit (CPS) is responsible for receiving reports of child maltreatment and “screening” these reports to see if the worries match the state laws authorizing workers to intervene with a family.

Connor Humble Named to All-NSIC First Team for Men’s Golf

University of Minnesota Crookston men’s golfer Connor Humble (R-Sr., Rosemount, Minn.) was named NSIC Men’s Golf All-Conference First Team. Humble is the first Golden Eagle to earn first team accolades since Matt McClure in 2013-14. Humble is the first UMN Crookston men’s golfer to earn placement on an All-Conference squad since McClure was named to the second team in 2014-15. He joins McClure, Jake Sanders, Steven Busho, Branden Schwartz, Matt Hiller, Lance Walvatne, Dan Lenz, Chad Underdal, Nate Dahl, Tommy Mueller, and Mike Paape as Golden Eagle players named NSIC Men’s Golf All-Conference First Team.

NWMAC: Arts Legacy grants due May 1

Northwest Minnesota Arts Council has announced that an additional deadline has been added for Arts Legacy Grants applications which are due May 1. Grants are awarded to nonprofit arts organizations, communities, schools, individuals and other nonprofit organizations. Applications are being accepted from the seven county Minnesota service area including Kittson, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau counties.

Pasque Flower Hike in Fertile Sand Hills April 23

Enjoy a guided spring hike to view pasque flowers blooming in the Fertile Sand Hills on Saturday, April 23. The lavender pasque flowers, sometimes referred to as prairie crocus, are one of the first prairie flowers to bloom each spring. Hundreds of pasque flowers annually bloom throughout the Fertile Sand Hills with a high concentration in the Death Valley area—the primary destination of Saturday’s hike.
