It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

The Crookston Pirates boys’ basketball team fell to section opponent Thief River Falls (TRF) 42-80 on Monday, January 31. Just as they have the past few games, the Pirates took an early lead but gave it up as they hit a scoring draught late in the first half.

The Crookston Pirates girls’ basketball team took down section opponent Roseau 63-46 on Monday, January 31. Entering the game, Roseau was 14-2, so the Pirates prepared for a tough game.

Eight different Pirates score in 10-0 win over Detroit Lakes

The Crookston Pirates girls’ hockey team had eight different skaters score en route to a 10-0 win over Detroit Lakes on Monday, January 31. Because the Pirates had beaten the Lakers 15-0 in their last match up, head coach Emily Meyer was able to play around with her lines, giving other girls opportunities to play.

Bruce Lysne

On Sunday January 23, 2022, Bruce Lysne, loving family member and accomplished photographer, passed away from pancreatic cancer at age 67. Bruce was born in Rugby, ND and married Cecilia Charbonneau in Fargo, ND in 1985.
