A Day in the Life of a Sports Editor

In my first four months as Sports Editor for the Times, I’ve been on a whirlwind of a journey. I’ve gotten to know so many athletes and their families, who have been nothing but welcoming; traveled to watch our Pirates in action; including a trip to Minneapolis for the tennis team’s run to State; and captured historic moments in Crookston’s sports history like girls’ hockey seasonopening win over Thief River Falls.

Pirates overcome slow start

The Crookston Pirate girls’ basketball team secured its 14th straight win with a 55-30 victory over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (DGF) on Monday, February 7. The girls got off to a slow start yet again, as the Rebels hung on for a 14-10 game in favor of Crookston.

Dawn Newton

ST. CLOUD - Dawn Newton, 79 of St. Cloud, MN (formerly of Crookston,MN) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Quiet Oaks Hospice House, St. Augusta, MN on December 18, 2021. She was a kind and loving soul, a friend to many--especially those less fortunate or marginalized--a proud mother to two daughters, grand-mother to six beloved grandchildren, an aunt, cousin, neighbor, mentor and revered teacher to a host of others who loved and appreciated her kind, compassionate and generous heart and quiet, gentle spirit.
