UMC volleyball signs middle hitter
University of Minnesota, Crookston head women’s volleyball coach Lee Anderson has announced the signing of Alyssa Schneider to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles in 2010.
Schneider is a 6-0, middle hitter from Oak Creek High School in the Southeast Conference. She was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2008, the Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2009 and is a two-time letter winner in volleyball. She plays club volleyball for Wisconsin Juniors. Schneider is a member of the National Honor Society, earned the Board of Education Academic Excellence Award and is an academic letter winner.
“Alyssa is an excellent addition to the Golden Eagle Volleyball family. Alyssa’s elite level experience and work ethic are invaluable and will serve her well at the level we are expecting her to play,” says Coach Anderson. “I am very excited that we are able to add a player with Alyssa’s experience, attitude and passion for the game.”
Schneider plans to major in health sciences (pre-physical therapy) at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Cindy and Tim Schneider.
Golden Eagle women’s hoops signs shooting guard
University of Minnesota, Crookston head women’s basketball coach Mike Roysland has announced the signing of Carly Rothstein to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles during the 2010-11 season.
Rothstein is a 5-10, shooting guard from St. Michael-Albertville High School in the Mississippi 8 conference. She was named to the 2009 State All-Tournament Team and was a 2009 All-Conference selection. She was a Pioneer Press Athlete of the Week and a Pioneer Press All-State Honorable Mention player. Rothstein holds the St. Michael-Albertville single game three-point field goal record at six and the single season three-point field goal record at 58.
“Carly is a great three-point shooter with a very quick release. Her range will allow us to really stretch the floor,” states Coach Roysland. “In addition, her athleticism and speed will be a great help on the defensive side of the ball.”
Rothstein is the daughter of Cathy and Tom Rothstein. She plans to major in early childhood education at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
