The University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagle Women’s Soccer program today announced the signings of Delaney McIntyre (Flin Flon, Manitoba), Elizabeth Busch (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Courtney Armborst (West St. Paul, Minn.) to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-2013 season.
Delaney McIntyre (Flin Flon, Manitoba)
A 5-3, midfielder from Hapnot Collegiate, McIntyre captained both her soccer and volleyball teams. She was chosen Junior Varsity Sportswoman of the year in 2010 at Hapnot. McIntyre was also her school’s most valuable player in soccer, basketball, junior varsity cross country and track and field and was a four-time leading scorer in soccer. She represented the United States at the Zico Cup Soccer Tournament in Brazil and was also a Rural Manitoba High School Soccer Championship All-Star in 2011. McIntyre was chosen for the Manitoba Blizzard College Showcase Soccer team in 2010-2011 and the Manitoba Provincial U16 Soccer team in 2009-201. She was a bronze medalist at the Canadian National Wrestling Championship in 2009 and also an honor student at Hapnot.
“Delaney is a very athletic and tough kid,” says Golden Eagle Head Coach Richard Jones. “For example, she is a very accomplished wrestler in Canada. Delaney's speed and athleticism allows her to get behind defenders at will. She will be a very strong player in the NSIC.”
McIntyre intends to major in sport and recreation management at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Murray McIntyre and Colleen Ballard.
Elizabeth Busch (Sioux Falls, S.D.)
A 5-4, midfielder from O’Gorman High School, Busch was a four-year letter winner in soccer and a member of South Dakota AA State High School Championship teams in 2008 and 2010. Busch received the O’Gorman Sport Leadership Award. She also was a member of the Dakota Alliance Soccer Club from 2001-2012 and won a state championship with them as well.
“Elizabeth is a hard-working, yet creative, midfielder,” says Golden Eagle Head Coach Richard Jones. “She is the type of player that makes the players around her better. Elizabeth is very technical and should help us improve our attack. She will be one of the most technical players in our conference.”
Busch intends to major in sport and recreation management at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Phil and Mary Busch.
Courtney Armborst (West St. Paul, Minn.)
A 5-8, forward from Henry Sibley High School of the Classic Suburban Conference, Armborst was a two-time all-conference performer and one-time all-conference honorable mention performer in soccer. She also was named all-conference and honorable mention in track and field as well as serving as team captain in track and field.
“Courtney is incredibly fast and athletic,” says Golden Eagle Head Coach Richard Jones. “She also strikes the ball very well. Courtney is the type of athlete that will cause all sorts of problems for our opponents. Once Courtney adjusts to the college game, I expect her to score a lot of goals for us.”
Armborst intends to major in biology at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Lori Armborst and Brian Hill.
