Pirate sophomore Abbie Anderson claimed the lone first place finish for Crookston in Monday's Detroit Lakes Pentathlon in the 100 individual medley. The Pirates finished third as a team out of six. Ana Koch took home a runner-up finish in the 50 backstroke and Kelsey Kaml finished third in the 50 breaststroke.

Adding to her first place finish, Anderson placed third in the 50 backstroke, fourth in the 50 freestyle, seventh place in the 50 butterfly and ninth in the 50 breaststroke.

Koch added to her runner-up finish a 12th place finish in the 50 freestyle.

"Today's meet went very well for the first of the season," said Head Coach Greg Summers. "It was great seeing all of the new swimmers competing for the first time and also seeing where the previous team's swimmers have improved over the off season."

Summers was pleased with his top swimmers but also pointed out some notable performances.

"Abbie Anderson, Ana Koch, and Kelsey Kaml all swam well each with at least one top three finish," he said. "Kaytelyn Porter and Nicole Plante swam some consistent times from last season which was excellent. Newcomers Sophie Lien, Haley Roed, Alex MacGregor, Marietta Geist and Sierra Pry all put up some impressive times in a few events today as well. This season will be a much different one from the past two years as we have almost doubled the team size and have gained a few good swimmers as well. The third place team finish shows that the team has been working hard and will only continue to get better."

The Pirates will compete in the Thief River Falls Triangular Thursday, Sept. 2.
