Thursday's Thief River Falls Invitational gave us a glimpse on how tightly packed the Section 8A Girls' Tennis season will be. Saturday's Pirate Booster Invitational gave us even more of an indication on how jam packed it is. Hibbing/Chisholm won the invite with 37 points and Bemidji finished runner-up with 27.

Section 8A teams finished with Park Rapids on top at third, Thief River Falls at fourth, East Grand Forks at fifth, the Pirates at sixth and Perham at eighth. Park Rapids, the third place team, and Crookston, the sixth place team, were separated by just seven points.

Jaclyn Proulx and Rachel Lariviere claimed the first singles championship with a sweep on the day. They are now 6-0 after starting the season with a loss against Roseau.

Other Pirates didn't fare as well as Proulx and Lariviere as Lilli Denison and Caitlin Wahouske recorded the next highest place for the Pirates with fourth at second doubles.

With the exception of Proulx and Lariviere, each position for the Pirates went 1-2 on the day.

The Pirates will compete in a quadrangular Tuesday in Park Rapids. They will face the Panthers at 10 a.m., Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at noon and Pequot Lakes at 2 p.m.
