Crookston's Travis Ross started his 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship Monday with a +7, 78 at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. The course, however, did not show much compassion to other competitors as the average score for round one was 79.9.
Ross had three bogeys on the front nine and three on the back nine plus a double bogey, but a birdie on the back nine put him at -7. He is tied for 180th place.
Ross will begin his second round today at 2 p.m. PDT on The Home Course.
