Lauren Graham had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead Crookston to a 47-41 win over Norman County East on Tuesday in Twin Valley. The Pirates improved to 2-1 on the season.

"We did not shoot very well last night as I think we were 13-48 from the field and 16-32 from the free throw line," Pirate head coach Lon Boike said. "Despite this, we played very good defense and played well the last 3 minutes of the game (when we really need to). We seemed to be rebounding better as we outrebounded NCE and were able to get some baskets in transisition."

Crookston took a 21-14 lead into halftime and increased the lead to double digits early in the second half before Norman County East came back and cut into the deficit. Fortunately for the Pirates, they were able to hold off the comeback for the six-point victory.

Following up Graham's performance was Mackenzie Sandstrom with eight points, Tori Schmitz with seven points and five rebounds, and Monica Wold and Rachel Wold each with five points. Rachel Wold pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

The scoring for the Pirates has been well-balanced. Coach Boike attributes that to the depth of the team.

"We have had several girls come off the bench this year and give us some great minutes. We hope and expect that trend to continue throughout the season," he said."

The Pirates will start a three-game homestand on Friday against Norman County West at 7:30 p.m.
