Pirates' streak hits four with win over Roseau

     Pirate senior Jordan Brewster had 16 points and junior Alex Boone had 13, both season highs, to help lead the Pirate boys' basketball team to their fourth win in a row as they defeated the Roseau Rams 73-57 in Roseau on Friday night.

 

     The Pirates opened the scoring with a Brett Delage three pointer and had a 9-0 run before the Rams got on the board with 14:14 left in the first half.  The Pirates responded with a 15-0 run as they continued their strong play on both ends of the court, cruising to a 38-18 halftime lead.

 

    "We got off to a good start and maintained it pretty much the entire night," Pirate Head Coach Greg Garmen said. "We shot well early and took care of the ball while forcing Roseau into some turnovers that we converted into points."

 

     The second half started with the Rams scoring the first four points of the half before the Pirates got their offense going  stretching their second half lead to as many as 28 points before the Rams went on theirr own run as they actually out-scored the Pirates in the second half 39 to 35.

 

    The Pirates featured a balanced attack as they were led in scoring by Delage, a junior, with 18 points, Brewster's 16 and Boone's 13. Freshman Aaron Holcraft put in nine, Aaron Remick had eight, Alex Boike scored seven and Ross Forney chipped in with a bucket.

 

    With the win the Pirates improve their record to 8-5.  The next action for the Pirates is tonight, Monday, Jan. 16, when they host the Fisher/Climax Knights at Crookston High School in their annual "Coaches for Cancer" game. Varsity game time is scheduled for 7:30. Fund-raiser events will take place throughout the evening in the commons area, and also at half-time of the varsity game.

 

     The Pirate JV won 43-40.
