Bittner was referring to Red Wing junior forward Alex Rezansoff, who scored five goals in the first two periods and added an assist in the third to lead the Wingers in a thrashing of the Pirates.
Pirate senior goalie Kollin Erdman recorded 14 saves and allowed four goals before being pulled less than two minutes into the second period for sophomore Parker Epema, who made four saves and allowed four goals.
Winger goalie Preston Blarney recorded 22 saves in the win.
Red Wing jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period after Crookston controlled the play early in the period.
Senior Mike Stegora scored with 8:37 remaining and Rezansoff added two goals in the final two minutes with the final one coming with just a tenth of a second left on the clock.
Crookston started to build some momentum with a goal at the :50 mark of the second period when a misplayed puck behind the Winger net was stolen by Pirate sophomore Brady Heppner, passed out in front to junior Connor Morgan before junior Kyle Proulx scored on a rebound.
However, Rezansoff scored two more quick goals, this time in a span of just 17 seconds and just 13 seconds after Proulx's goal.
Rezansoff added his fifth goal with 9:12 remaining in the second period to give Red Wing a 6-1 lead.
With about six minutes remaining, a penalty shot was awarded to the Wingers' Kyle LaPorte after he was hooked going to the net. On the penalty shot, he skated down the slot and made a move to his left where Epema was able to get his pad out to stop the puck.
The Wingers made it 7-1 with about a minute remaining in the second period with Stegora's second goal.
Pirate senior Curtis Regan added his third goal in four games with 9:29 left in the third period when he took a pass from junior defenseman Ryan Bittner at the blue line and skated in on a breakaway scoring on a shot just over Blarney's right pad.
Red Wing closed out the scoring just 23 seconds later when Taylor Hanson made it 8-2 on assists from Marcus Dodge, his third of the game, and Rezansoff, his sixth point of the game.
Red Wing improves to 10-8-1 on the season and will face Thief River Falls today at 1 p.m.
The Pirates fall to 6-16-1 on the season and will play their final regular season home game Friday, Feb. 10 against Lake of the Woods. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
