Pirate centers Erica Samuelson, a junior, and Brooke Heggie, a freshman, scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, Tuesday to lead Crookston in a 63-25 win over Climax/Fisher in Fisher.

"I thought we were able to play a lot of players last night and give each of the girls some good playing time," Pirate Head Coach Lon Boike said in an email. "It was good to see all the players contribute."

Senior forward Monica Wold added seven points and junior guard Taylor Demarais had five. Seven other Pirates scored two to four points.

Amanda Donarski led the Climax/Fisher Knights with eight points, while Claire Carlson had six.

In the first half with the Crookston lead at 9-8, the Pirates went on an 11-0 run over about four minutes to take a 20-8 lead with nine minutes, 18 seconds remaining. Heggie recorded seven of the 11 points.

Following four points by Climax/Fisher, Crookston went on a 13-0 run over about three minutes to go up 35-12 with three minutes left.

With about a minute left in the half, Pirate freshman guard Kenzie Klatt suffered an injury going for a loose ball. In obvious pain, she was then carried off the court by her father.

The Knights scored three straight to start the second half, but a three-ball by Wold kick-started a 19-0 run, which featured nine points from Samuelson. Crookston led 56-18 at that point with 11:47 to play.

The Pirates finished the regular season at 16-10, the Knights finished at 0-22.

Crookston looks to be one of the top two seeds in the Section 8AA North Tournament.

"In the forthcoming playoffs, I would like to see us play better defense," Coach Boike stated. "In the next week or so in practice, that is something we will place an emphasis upon. In addition, I'd like us to be a little more consistent on offense."
