Girls' basketball: Pirates fall to Hibbing 77-59

The Pirates trailed by just six points at halftime on Saturday afternoon against Hibbing but the Bluejackets scored 46 in the second half to win 77-59 in Crookston.

On the season, the Pirates fell to a 3-2 record.

The teams battled back and forth throughout the first half with each team holding the other team to minimal runs. The second half was much of the same until Hibbing pulled away with about ten minutes left on the clock.

A 12-0 run, which spanned about four minutes gave the Bluejackets a 62-46 lead, which they would ride the rest of the way for the victory.

Lauren Graham finished the day with 15 points and eight rebounds. Rachel Wold added 12 points and Kellee Koenig posted seven. Mackenzie Sandstrom recorded six points, while both Sara Bjerk and Tori Schmitz scored five points and had seven rebounds.

The Pirates will travel to East Grand Forks on Tuesday to face the Green Wave at 7:30 p.m. East Grand Forks is No. 6 in the most recent Class AA girls' basketball rankings by Minnesota Basketball News.
