Kolton Walker - Boys' Hockey
Head Coach Jon Bittner: “Kolton returned to the varsity line up after hurting his wrist early in January and is now back to full strength. He had a big game for the Pirates on Saturday vs. EGF. His line contributed 3 goals in the game with Kolton getting one himself. He is a tall player with great 'wing span' or reach. Kolton is a fluid skater with speed and can handle the puck. He worked hard in the off season in his skill preparation, summer tournaments and in the weight room. It is great to have him back in the line up and all his hard work is paying off.”
Connor Morgan - Boys' Hockey
Head Coach Jon Bittner: “A linemate of Kolton's and Morgan Terpstra's, Connor had his first goal of the season against Wadena and contributed with assists against EGF, great positional play and back checking. Like Kolton, Connor has progressed into the varsity line up the old fashioned way: by working hard in the off season on his skills, summer tournaments and in the weight room and is ready to make his varsity contributions. Congratulations to both Kolton and Connor and to the rest of the Pirates as their continued hard work and improvement throughout the season is wonderful.”
Mandie Persson - Girls' Hockey
Head Coach Tim Persson: “Mandie played solid games at defense against Warroad and Lake of the Woods. Her experience on the blue line makes her a valuable leader for the Pirates. Mandie and her blue line mates did a nice job with holding Warroad to four goals on its big sheet of ice. Mandie is having a great year and looking forward to section playoffs.”
Natasha Skala - Girls' Hockey
Head Coach Tim Persson: “Natasha, who is a defenseman from Red Lake Falls, is one of our three freshman players. She has handled the huge learning curve with the quickness of the high school level well. We need her to keep working hard and we are looking for her to do bigger and better things in the future.”
Shane Chapman - Boys' Basketball
Head Coach Greg Garmen: “Shane has done a good job of bringing energy to the Pirates when he steps on the floor. He has played his minutes well and goes all out when he steps on the floor.”
Lauren Graham - Girls' Basketball
Head Coach Lon Boike: “Lauren, a junior center/forward, had an outstanding month of January averaging about 18 points per game and 7 rebounds. She is a strong presence on the court on defense and has displayed good leadership in our recent 5-game winning streak. In addition to her strong play, she is shooting over 80 percent from the free throw line.”
